ParaHockey

ParaHockey “the Hockey Bikkels”

In 2002, Hockey Club Eindhoven started offering hockey facilities to children with a mental and/or physical disability, under the name G-Hockey. Through this page we want to make you and other interested parties enthusiastic about and also inform you about G-Hockey or as it is called today: ParaHockey.

The objective of the KNHB

The KNHB strives to optimally stimulate, guide and coordinate hockey for people with disabilities within associations affiliated with the KNHB. The ultimate goal is to create sufficient support for associations to realize a structural range of activities for ParaHockey.

What is ParaHockey?

ParaHockey includes G-Hockey (athletes with an intellectual disability) and LG hockey (athletes with a physical disability). This concerns athletes who can walk. There are currently approximately 1200 G-Hockey players and approximately 130 LG hockey players in the Netherlands. At HCE we have chosen to no longer make the distinction between G and LG and to continue under the more generic name ParaHockey.

Why G-Hockey / ParaHockey?

This form is intended for players who are not wheelchair-dependent, and whose intellectual disability is such that they cannot keep up cognitively, socially, emotionally or motorically with their peers within the regular hockey team.

To describe the group of people with an intellectual disability, we divide the behavior into three aspects:

  • Cognitive aspect (intellectual functioning);
  • Social affective aspect (cooperation, feelings);
  • Motor aspect (movement skills).

We describe these aspects separately, but it must be kept in mind that they are in fact inextricably linked

The goal of G-Hockey / ParaHockey is to allow young people with an intellectual disability to enjoy and enjoy hockey and gaming activities. The fact that they are members of our sports club, with all the associated activities, promotes their integration and can teach other youth members to deal with their disabled peers in a natural way.

For whom?

Mentally disabled boys and girls

  • who are between 12 and 30 years old
  • who really enjoy sports and
  • who are able to participate in hockey activities.

But also for parents / supervisors, whom we would like to involve as much as possible.

Who are we?

We are the HCE Hockey Bikkels!

We are a group of 10 girls and 5 boys aged 15 to 28. We like it when more young people / young adults with disabilities join us. We are guided by Yvonne, Christel, Mark and Hoite. They form an experienced team of committed HC Eindhoven members from whom we have been receiving training for a number of years now.

What are we doing?

  • Training once a week (Monday 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM)
  • Playing eight to ten matches during the course of the season (Saturday).
  • A number of social activities throughout the year.
  • Where possible, exchanges with G-Hockey teams from other associations.
  • Laugh a lot and have fun on and off the field.
  • Learn to play hockey according to the possibilities you have.
